In the End 03:35
Goodbye, Goodbye I’ve had a good time, it’s true The days I spent, who knew It would end up this way The morning of, I didn’t know what to do Everything felt so new It did right till the end But we settled in Got drunk on too much gin Dribbling down our chin Right till the end And we passed the time Drinking Aldi red wine Pretending that it tasted fine Right till the end And we don’t have the right words to say How it feels to know these days have gone away As just yet it feels closer to surreal To comprehend that it is all very real The end was supposed to last so long There was drinking, laughing smiling going on To raise a glass to all that’s been and gone Is a promise we’re all gonna be kept from In the end Only time will tell Whether we all did well Whether it was worth the smell Right to the end And there’ll be a time When we can recount our crimes Of when we were in our prime Right to the end But right now we just don’t have the right words to say How it feels to know these days have gone away As just yet it feels closer to surreal To comprehend that it is all very real The end’s not supposed to come so soon Where’s the drinking, where’s the laughing throughout June? To raise a glass to all that’s been and gone Is a promise we’re all gonna be kept from At the end At the end

about

As for GCSE and A-Level students, there will be no big party at the end of exams, no proms or the shared elation of a group dissertation hand-in. It feels strange being sat at home with my parents when I know I should be in my house in Bristol with all my friends revelling in the anxious anticipation of being on the home stretch of academia. I was mulling over these emotions when I wrote this song, At the End. I remembered the nervous excitement I felt arriving at my halls of residents on my first day of university. I revelled in the memories of too much gin, staying up until the sun rose before sloping off to bed. I recalled those quiet moments, sitting on the sofa with a cup of tea chatting to my housemates’.
